Maria specialises in Single Discipline Assessments and Specialised Wheelchair and Seating Assessments, for adults & children.
As an occupational therapist I am passionate about enabling occupational engagement throughout people’s lives. I embrace the social model of disability and aim to be client directed, listening to clients and their families, and helping them to reach their occupational therapy goals and aspirations considering the person, their environment and what they need and want to do. I believe it is not just about well-being but “well-doing” and “well-living”, concepts I developed from my research listening to people living with long term disability.
Maria completed her Diploma of Occupational therapy School of Occupational Therapy, NZ Central Institute of Technology, in 1984.
I have worked extensively in hospitals in Auckland and 2 years in London covering the full range of therapy experience (general medical, orthopaedics and neurorehabilitation). I have also worked in a number of schools for MOE. I have specialized in complex wheelchair and seating assessments for MOH clients since 2000 and have contracted to PRS to provide these services to ACC clients since 2007. I also mentor and supervise a number of occupational therapy colleagues and students. I have a strong commitment to continued professional development and study.
